International Students

If you are a non-German AND neither received your bachelor's degree from a German university nor received your general university entrance qualification (“Abitur”) in Germany or from a German school abroad, you must apply to the LMU International Office for general admission IN ADDITION TO your application to the Faculty of Biology! The International Office reviews the qualifications obtained abroad in order to certify whether the applicant is eligible to study at the LMU Munich. The Faculty of Biology assesses the aptitude of the student and subsequently decides on the admission to the Master’s program. The selection procedure at the Faculty of Biology and the application to the LMU International Office are two independent processes, with different application deadlines.

The application process for the Master’s program at the Faculty of Biology is the same for all applicants, regardless of their origin. The application deadline for the Master’s program starting in the winter semester 2024/25 will be February 28, 2024.

For application for general admission to the LMU Munich, please see Admissions website of the LMU International Office. The LMU International Office requires its own application form and certified copies of all transcripts and certificates. The application deadline for general admission to the LMU for the winter semester 2024/25 is July 15, 2024. For the winter semester 2024/25, the deadline will likely be July 15, 2024. When you apply to the LMU International Office, please indicate on the application form that your application for the master's program is in progress.

Please note that applicants with a Chinese qualifying degree are required to provide an APS certificate with their application to the LMU International Office.

There is no tuition for the program, but please note that the LMU has no financial aid program. Different organizations that may award scholarships and/or financial aid are reviewed at the GraduateCenter LMU website. Please also check possibilities in your home country. In limited cases, you may be eligible for state funding (BAföG and student loans).
